|
Other Regions: ancient-cities | capital-colombo | east-coast | hill-country | north | north-west | south-coast | | Known to be one of Sri Lanka’s ancient fishing hamlets, the village of Ahungalla is as traditional as it is industrious, it is one of the few places left in Sri Lanka where one can experience the islands traditional mode of transport; the bullock cart, these sturdy carts are brightly colored and sometimes even come with a fancy canopy to shade its passengers from the sun. Visitors to Ahungalla can experience how cinnamon is processed into oil and its regular kitchen form, the coconut coir business is thriving here as well, watch as the local ladies weave these tough fibers into rope and a myriad of other artifacts, some of which are for sale and can be used to decorate the home. Take a ‘tuk tuk’ (three wheeler or trishaw) and explore the inner areas of Ahungalla and even spot a paddy field or two. The area really is a fine mix of the quaint and modern. | Cities: Ahungala | Bentota | Beruwala | Hikkaduwa | Kalpitiya | Wilpattu | Sorry,There are no Tours to the Ahungala City, Sri Lanka |
