Hotel Suisse - Introduction
Hotel Suisse is a stylish colonial hotel situated in a quiet area at the very centre of the old royal city of Kandy, right beside the historic and picturesque Kandy Lake. With 93 roomed well-known colonial styled Hotel Suisse, stands on nearly four acres of landscaped gardens - the only city hotel in very centre of the old royal city of Kandy to stand on such a significantly massive acreage.
It might not quite match the elegance of Galle Face Hotel in Colombo, but it is of similar vintage, and it is looking even more grander after a refurbishment in 2006/7. Dark wooden panelling, polished parquet or tiled floors, pictures of royalty and VIPs of yesteryear and creaking antique furniture predominate in a traditional hotel that slows your step and transports you back in time.
Hotel Suisse is a protected building, therefore no structural changes can be made to it, so anybody who happened to have stayed here 50 years ago in the hotel's heyday, when prime ministers and princes might be among the guests, would find that little has changed. These enduring qualities will delight many, but there are drawbacks: low-grade lighting and limited TV channels are also part of the ancient colonial experience and the restaurant menu has been largely untouched by modern trends.

The Hotel Suisse has 93 colonial-style air conditioned rooms. Most rooms are breathtaking and are spacious and many with traditional colonial styling. In summer 2007, all rooms have benefited from refurbishment. All rooms look out either onto Kandy Lake or a quiet central courtyard.
