The Centauria Hotel, Embilipitiya is a cosy, simple two-plus star hotel, with 51 rooms. It is one of the best hotels you can find in the 2-3 star comfort category hotels in the area in close proximity to the national park. It has an appealing natural setting, with the Suriya Kanda range rising beyond Chandrika tank, best appreciated from the swimming pool and outside cafe-bar. Although much of it remains bedecked in the olive green so believed of the Ceylon Hotels Corporation, it has quietly upgraded. The Centauria Hotel lies on the edge Chandrika reservoir, close to the small town of Embilipitiya, and just south of the Uda Walawe national park. From here it is a short drive to the tranquil south coast and the increasingly flourishing fortress town of Galle.

Touring
From The Centauria Hotel, there is easy access to lake fishing, boat rides and cycling. Main excursion from The Centauria Hotel is an adventurous safari into the Uda Walawe National Park with 30,820 hectares of protected jungle which resembles an African game park. According to wildlife reports, there are about 500 elephants in the park and they often roam in herds of up to 100. Numerous species of birds as well as other animals including deer, monitor lizards and crocodiles can be spotted here. Feeding times at the Elephant Transit Camp just adjoining the National Park is also another wonderful experience especially for children. Here, 31 orphaned baby elephants ranging from just 1 month old to two years are cared for by the Wild Life Department until they are ready to be set free once again into the Uda Walawe jungle. There are specific feeding times during the day and each session lasts only for about half and hour. Guests are advices to go on time to ensure that they do not miss this wonderful experience. There is an Elephant Sponsorship Programme that enables guests to support this important effort at conserving the Elephant population in Sri Lanka.

Luxury Room
There are 14 'luxury' a/c rooms, so rated because they are more spacious. They have same facilities as Standard rooms with exception, all five luxury rooms have a bath tub.
Lakeside cottage
There are eight lakeside cottages, with a/c and more modern furnishings. All have balconies, kitchen area with fridge, small table and ironing boards. Bathrooms are much superior to the main wing of the hotel. These are highly recommended.
