The Kandy House - Introduction
Located in the rolling hills of Sri Lanka’s ancient capital, Kandy, and which is also its namesake, the Kandy House is a beautifully redesigned ancestral traditional style manor in a natural setting rivalling those of some of Sri Lanka’s pristine forests. Now furnished with modern and traditional furnishings and the latest in modern amenities, this luxurious boutique hotel will provide its guests with a holiday in the hills as never experienced before.

Guests can book any of the four Ultra or five Deluxe rooms, each of which have been named after nine rare and beautiful butterflies which flutter among the vibrant flora of the Island. Each room has been decorated with a selection of antique local treasures and vibrant modern pieces, the rooms furnishings are primarily traditional to further enunciate the culture and craftsmanship of Sri Lanka and the amenities available in all rooms are state of the art and are of the highest grade.

The house has its own large infinity pool which overlooks lush green surroundings of wild coconut, bamboo trees and wide array of other tropical plants, as guests lounge in the pool they will be able to observe the many birds which call the region home and maybe even some of the rare butterflies for which the houses rooms are named for. Take a walk in the houses ample and serene gardens and breathe in the fresh air of the hills.

The staffs of the house are well trained to service your every need, for example: feel like playing a spirited match of cricket, no problem, the staff are ever willing to give you a game you will enjoy and not soon forget! For the quieter day you had in mind, settle in with a good book from the house library and let your imagination bring those words to life. Other activities such as a game of carom or croquet are also on hand should you want to get creative but not over exert yourself. The Degaldoruwa Cave Temple is a must see in the nearby area of Gunnepana.

The houses restaurant is famous for its fusion style cuisine, guests can sample ten different local dishes at least twice a week during the houses feast of ten traditional curries, these dishes are spicy, tangy, savoury and sweet, a perfect blend of local spices and produce is used to prepare them for the novice pallet to the experienced food critic. A wide assortment of international dishes are available, some of which have been adopted by using some of the locally grown produce making for an exciting new take on the cuisine of the world.

The rooms of the house are divided into two categories, the Ultra (4x) and Deluxe (5x) rooms, each of these rooms are named after nine different species of rare butterflies found in Sri Lanka. Each room has its own personality in the sense that each is decorated with a unique set of traditional antiques and modern pieces. Ultra Rooms
The ‘Red Spot Duke’: this room is a spacious double room which also open onto a wide veranda. The room offers guests a king sized four poster bed with a mosquito net, sofa and large cupboards for storage of guests belongings. The bathroom is luxurious and has a separate shower, WC and double basins.
The ‘Peacock Royal’: this room is right next to the ‘Red Spot Duke’ room and provides the same features as its neighbour: a king sized four poster bed with a mosquito net, sofa and large cupboards for storage of guest’s belongings. The bathroom is luxurious and has a separate shower, WC and double basins.
The ‘Indian Admiral’: this room is located on the upper level of the house from the houses inner courtyard. The view from the rooms windows offers a magnificent vista of emerald green paddy fields and the houses infinity pool. The room offers guests a king sized four poster bed with a mosquito net, sofa and large cupboards for storage of guests belongings. The bathroom is luxurious and added to a separate shower, WC and double basins has an old fashioned cast iron bathtub.
The ‘Black Rajah’: opening onto an outdoor veranda via arched doors, the room offers an octagonal stone bath, a king sized four poster bed with a mosquito net, sofa and large cupboards for storage of guest’s belongings. The bathroom is luxurious and has a separate shower, WC and double basins. The room also offers a double swing hammock in a “secret” garden nearby. The ‘Black Rajah’ can be booked along with the adjoining Deluxe bedroom know as the ‘Monkey Puzzle’

The ‘Sunbeam’: located on the upper floor of the house from the inner courtyard this room offers guests a splendid view of the infinity pool and jungle beyond. The room offers guests a king sized four poster bed with a mosquito net, sofa and large cupboards for storage of guests belongings. The bathroom is luxurious and added to a separate shower, WC and double basins has an old fashioned cast iron bathtub.
The ‘Cornelian’: located on the upper floor of the house, this room has access to the veranda which offers chaise lounges and a jungle vista. The room offers guests a king sized four poster bed with a mosquito net, sofa and large cupboards for storage of guests belongings. The bathroom is luxurious and has a separate shower, WC and double basins.
The ‘Monkey Puzzle’: the room offers its own arched doorways which lead to a small outdoor veranda. This room is one of the houses twin rooms and is easily converted into a double room. The room offers two beds with a mosquito net, sofa and large cupboards for storage of guest’s belongings. The bathroom is luxurious and has a separate shower, WC and double basins. The ‘Monkey Puzzle’ adjoins the ‘Black Rajah’ which allows for a dual booking, perfect for a group of friends or a family looking for that much needed extra space when travelling with teenagers.
The ‘Pioneer’: this room offers guests its own private veranda and is situated right in the garden where a personal swing hammock awaits. The room is cosy and provides guests with two beds with a mosquito net, sofa and large cupboards for storage of guest’s belongings. The bathroom is luxurious and has a separate shower, WC and double basins.
The ‘Lime Butterfly’: situated on the upper floor of the house and access from the inner courtyard. The room offers guests a king sized four poster bed with a mosquito net, sofa and large cupboards for storage of guests belongings.
